Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:

We cannot say thank you enough to everyone that helped to make the Fall Festival such a success.  Whether it be the students, the parents, the grandparents, the alumni, or parishioners, all of your help made last weekend such a success.  That help will continue to allow St. John’s to provide a faith-filled, academic, personal growth and reflective, education to current and future students.

We would like to say thank you to all the Junior High and High School students for selling dinner tickets.  As a Junior High and High School, we sold 2858 tickets, just 5 shy of our mark last year.  70% of the students sold at least one ticket, with some even selling as many as 90.  Thank you for all your help.

Big congratulations to all of our Senior Fall participants.  Though some of our seasons have already ended, the memories that were made will last a lifetime.  Our Seniors have left their mark on each and every program, but more importantly, the underclassmen that will follow their example.  Thank you to our Seniors for being examples of what it means to be a Blue Jay.

October 16th Newsletter

Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:

We would like to extend a big thank you to Mrs. Hellman and Mrs. Gillespie for all of their hard work in helping Homecoming, both Friday and Saturday, be such a success.  The hard work of our Student Council preparing the field and gym, the beautiful speech given by Queen Jessica, and though the outcome of the game was not what we had hoped; it was a great weekend for alumni and students to gather for a little fun.

Following Homecoming, our Seniors and Juniors have been busy this week transforming the gym and cafeteria into the Fall Festival.  Wednesday was our Children’s Festival, and the energy in the gym was electric.  Thursday and Friday our Seniors and Juniors had the opportunity to continue an age-old tradition of cleaning and preparing the chicken for this Saturday and Sunday, while making coleslaw and other items for our dinners.  Memories that will not be forgotten.  From the Pre-Schoolers to the High Schoolers to the Alumni to our guests, the Festival is a time for all of us to come together as a Blue Jay Family.

A big thank you goes out to all of those that have given their time and energy so far this week to make the Festival this weekend possible.  I would love to name you all but I am sure I would forget one or two.  Whether working the Children’s Festival, bringing your children to the Festival, helping prepare the kitchen and meals, or set-up of treasure island and other important booths, this is what has allowed St. John’s to endure and will continue with your support.

Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:

This past week was chalked full of events leading up to Homecoming this evening.  Whether we were spreading our Blue Jay Spirit, wearing crazy socks, jinxing Fort Recovery, holding an assembly, or celebrating Mass, we used this week to prepare for the enjoyment that will take place this weekend.

Whether you are coming to see Queen Jessica Geise and her Court, meeting up with fellow alumni, watching the Blue Jays play Fort Recovery, or a little bit of everything, Homecoming is a special time for St. John’s, a time to celebrate all God has blessed us with.  As always, thank you for your support and dedication to our parish and school.

Immediately after Homecoming, one of the most important events in our Parish, the Fall Festival will take place on October 15 and 16.  Your generosity is what continues to make our Catholic Education possible.  Whether purchasing dinner tickets from students who are already out selling, just in case you need a few.  Or providing your time, energy, and resources in the kitchen, the gym, or anywhere else to make this weekend such a success.  Together we are Blue Jays!!

Bingo Help Needed

There is another very important fundraiser that is ongoing at Delphos St. John’s, and 100% of the money made through this ongoing fundraiser goes to the school that directly correlates again into the lowest possible net tuition we are able to offer.  That ongoing fundraiser is Wednesday and Saturday Bingo that takes place downstairs in the Cafeteria/Little Theater area.  Each year Bingo raises about $80,000 for the school.  We are in serious need of new volunteers to help work both the Concessions and the Bingo Hall in order to continue having this important ongoing fundraiser for Delphos St. John’s.  Please consider organizing a group of friends to join a regular schedule of volunteering to work Bingo on either Wednesdays and/or Saturday nights.  Once you are ready to commit to volunteering as much time as you are able to help with Bingo, please call the Ministry Center at 419-695-4050 to sign up.

Financial Aid Meeting

A financial aid meeting has been scheduled for Monday, October 10, at 7:00 PM in the Delphos Jefferson Senior High School cafeteria.  This program is sponsored by the Delphos St. John’s and Jefferson guidance departments and will feature Mr. Chris Fowler, Director of Financial Aid at Bluffton University.  Mr. Fowler will explain the college financial aid process and how to fill out the various financial aid forms for all parents no matter where your child plans to attend college.  Financial Aid is constantly changing.  Mr. Fowler will be discussing all of the changes in financial aid, as well as how to complete the FAFSA, for the 2017-18 school year.  This program will be especially helpful for parents of seniors who will be attending college in the fall of 2017.

Good luck to all the St. John’s students, that are competing this weekend in one way or another, bring home a win, as you have already made the Blue Family so proud of you.

Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:

This past week was a week full of exciting happenings and opportunities.  The NET Team conducted retreats for our Freshman and Sophomores, giving each class a chance to bond a little closer to each other and to their Savior.  Seniors were treated to a walking tour of Delphos, prepared and conducted by Rotary, sharing the history of Delphos.  We were blessed to welcome back Paul Krendl (Class of 1998) to perform a few illusions and share his experiences as to how he has realized his goals.  (Krendl is in town to perform two shows on October 2, sponsored by the Optimist Club.  More details are attached below.)

Magical Homecoming Delphos 2017

The end of September is upon us and the month of October is ready to begin.  This month will bring some major events here to St. John’s, including Homecoming.  Which will take place October 7 with the recognition of Queen Jessica Geise and her Court, the return of many alumni, followed by a game against Fort Recovery.  Saturday the 8th will provide an opportunity for the students to enjoy an evening of entertainment in a safe, respectful, and faith oriented atmosphere.

One of the most important events in our Parish, the Fall Festival will take place on October 15 and 16.

Notes from Nurse Jean

Just a reminder that the policy for St. John’s is that students may return from an illness after they have been 24 hours free of vomiting, diarrhea, or elevated temperature.  Please keep this in mind before sending your child back to school.  We have had several cases of gastroenteritis, which includes vomiting and diarrhea.  If they return too soon, reoccurrence of symptoms and an increased risk of spread of the virus through the school occurs.  We ask you please make sure your children are recovered completely before returning them to school.

Empowered Through Prayer

Let us enrich our own prayer life as well as others by sharing how we pray as well as learning new ways to pray.  Through this new ministry may we also come to feel empowered to make a difference in the world around us knowing who it is that gives us that courage and strength.  If interested please contact Mary Lou Pohlman at 419-303-8019 or email mlpohlman24@gmail.com.  Be prepared to give available days and times so that a time can be worked for everyone interested.

Homecoming Guidelines

The Homecoming Guidelines have not changed from last year.  The U.S. Bishops state that “as Christians we should dress in a modest manner, wearing clothing that reflect our reverence for God and that manifest our respect for the dignity of the liturgy and for one another.”  I do wish that you exercise modesty and sound judgments as you shop for dresses, this summer and fall.  I understand the challenges we face, adhering to our Catholic Faith while trying to shop in an environment that does not always share our beliefs.  However, know that your help is greatly appreciated in supporting the message that we work to accomplish together each day.

In order to be eligible to attend Homecoming, we must have a signed copy of the Guidelines on file in the office prior to Homecoming.  The form can be turned into the office via paper copy or you can log into your OneView Parent Portal and fill the form out electronically by visiting: https://delphosstjohnsoneview.esvportal.com/

Contact the High School Office for any questions.

Good luck to all the St. John’s students, that are competing this weekend in one way or another, bring home a win, as you have already made the Blue Family so proud of you.
