March 27th Newsletter

Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:

Good Afternoon.

It is always sad when good things have to come to an end, but what an exciting week it was to be a Blue Jay.  However, with the end of anything always comes the beginning of something new.

Congratulations to Coach Elwer, his staff, the players, and cheerleaders on an amazing season.  A season where we saw this team win 18 of their last 20 games.  A season that brought home a Sectional, District, and Regional Championship, and solidified themselves as one of the best four teams in the entire State of Ohio in Division Four Basketball, out of 200 schools.  A team that will go down as one of the best, in the rich history of St. John’s.

Keep in your thoughts and prayers our student band members, parents, and Mr. Newell, as they will be in Florida this week to perform at Disney.  Every four years this is an opportunity for these students to display their talent and dedication.  After working hard for four years raising the money necessary to achieve this goal, it is a nice reward to them for all of their efforts.  While having the opportunity to do what they love and spreading a little Blue Jay spirit.

Today brings an end to the Third Quarter.  It is hard to believe but only 9 weeks remain in our school year.  Grade Cards will be going home as soon as possible.

With the end of one season, a new season is ushered in, whether that be Spring or the start of our Baseball, Track, and School Musical seasons.  We wish all of our students participating in anything this Spring the best of luck.  Make the most of each and every opportunity.

March 20th Newsletter

Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:

Good Afternoon.

What a week to be a Blue Jay. From wrestling to basketball to cheerleading to student recognition from a number of organizations, to the great things that will be taking place this week, there is never a dull moment at St. John’s.

Congratulations to our 8th Grade Students who have completed their Confirmation. The Sacrament of Confirmation builds on the Sacraments of Baptism, Penance, and Holy Communion, and completes the process of initiation into the Catholic Church. It establishes young adults as full-fledged members of the faith, confirming and strengthening the faith bestowed in Baptism. Being confirmed means accepting responsibility for your faith and destiny. This signifies that as a young adult one must do what is morally correct, not for the recognition or reward, but merely because it is the right thing to do. This rite is what I hope will be one of your child’s lasting memories from their 8th-grade year at St. John’s.

Congratulations to Coach Elwer, his Staff, and the Boys Basketball Team on their Regional Championship at Toledo, this past Friday. 2 – 4 – 6 – 8 the Blue Jays are going to State. In addition, good luck to them as they take on Lutheran East, Thursday at 5:15 PM in Columbus, during the State Semi-Finals.

Congratulations to our Competition Cheer Team, who placed 1st in Non-Tumbling, Tumbling, and Highest Points Non-Tumbling at Nationals. Great job girls.

Congratulations to Medical Office Management Senior Shelby Wilhelm who placed 5th in the Integrated Office Applications contest at the Ohio Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Competition. With her top 5 finish, Shelby qualifies for the National BPA Competition in Orlando, Florida on May 10-14.

Congratulations to Chase Martin who placed 6th at the 164-pound weight class in the Junior High State Wrestling tournament this weekend in Youngstown, Ohio. Congratulations Chase.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make our ACT Boot Camp such a success this past Wednesday, especially Mr. Jason Bockey and Mrs. Chrissy Elwer for organizing the event. We hope this ACT Boot Camp helps the students as they take the ACT in the future and something we can continue to offer.

Go Jays and God Bless,

February 21st Newsletter

Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:

Good Morning.

With the extended weekend and nice weather, we all hope you had a chance to enjoy a little time outside.  Hopefully, it is a sign of things to come, but as we know, weather in Northwest Ohio can change on a dime.

This week was an amazing week at St. John’s.

It started with a fundraiser, led by Senior Carleigh Ankerman, that brought to the attention of our students and staff a place and a couple in Columbus that look to help those in a way we may often forget or take for granted.  They help support families through lodging, gas cards, and meals, that are struggling to find a way to pay for these items as their loved ones receive treatment at the James Cancer Center at Ohio State.  And though sometimes we may think of this as a world away, it touched close to home when a young resident from Delphos needed their help.  We will conclude our fundraising efforts for them this week with our Change Stall, but hope that does end our contributions to this amazing couple, Jane and Kevin Clark.  If you have an opportunity please check out their website or the article in the Lima News.  We may all know someone one day that could benefit from their support and generosity.

http://www.hopehollow.com/

http://limaohio.com/news/230700/delphos-boys-cancer-battle-strikes-a-movement

We would like to thank Father Wagner (http://fatherwagner.com/) for his upbeat, energetic, and powerful message to our students and staff.  Father Wagner echoed so many of the things that we look to achieve each day, but it is great to hear that message from someone outside our building.

A big thank you to Mission Society for delivering flowers on Valentine’s Day.  Just a small way that we could brighten someone’s day.

Congratulations to Sydney Eley, our Optimist Student of Month for February and the Sophomore Class.  Throughout this year, Sydney has exhibited the qualities necessary to earn this award, whether it be through her academic achievement, participation in extra-curricular activities, her willingness to volunteer at organizations outside of school, or her willingness to help staff or students.  Sydney exemplifies what it means to be the Optimist Student of the Month.

Congratulations to the Scholar Athlete of the Week, Madilynn Schulte.  Madilynn demonstrates what it means to be a Lady Jay, with her dedication on the court and in the classroom.
