February 21st Newsletter

Visitation Sunday takes place this weekend.  If you have not had the opportunity to return your envelope please drop it in the collection plate this weekend or in the mail.  Your support and dedication to St. Johns Parish and School, does not go noticed and we thank you for all that you do to help make St. Johns a special place.

On Monday, February 24th at 6:30 in the Robert A. Arnzen Gymnasium, you and your son/daughter are cordially invited to attend a meeting at which time we will review high school course selection, graduation requirements, the Ohio Graduation Test (or equivalent), and college requirements.  This meeting is NOT mandatory.  However, due to recent changes in the curriculum and requirements, you may want to attend to receive the latest information.  Mr. Scott Elwer will be present to discuss the Vocational Agriculture program offered through Delphos Jefferson.  A copy of the current high school graduation requirements and other scheduling materials will be handed out at this time.  For those of you who are unable to attend, materials will be given to your son/daughter the following day in school.  Please feel free to call the High School if you have any questions or concerns.  We certainly are looking forward to working with your son/daughter for the next four years.

Mark your calendars and get in shape!  Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of fasting, prayer and almsgiving for Christians.  Join many others in the community as we do all 3 at once by praying together, running, and offering money to the needy.  On Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 5:45 p.m. a Prayer Service will be held with the distribution of ashes at the community track behind Jefferson High School. 6 p.m. begins the 5 K.  Runners and walkers all are welcome.  You can pre-register at the Delphos St. John’s Ministry Center, High School or Elementary School offices, with a $10 donation to the St Vincent DePaul Society.

Monday, March 17th we WILL be in session as an entire school.  This day was slated to be a Professional Development Day, however due to the cancellations that have occurred this Winter, it has been decided that this day would be more productively used as a school day or educational day.  The City Schools are in session this day as well, so the buses will run as normal providing transportation if needed.  If you have any questions please let us know, otherwise thank you for your cooperation during this chaotic weather season.

Beginning March 10th, Sophomores and any Junior or Senior still required to complete the OGT (Ohio Graduation Test) will begin their testing.  We will be going on a Two-Hour Delay Schedule for that week to allow these students a quite, uninterrupted atmosphere to complete the five tests.  Any Junior or Senior who has passed all five tests will not need to report until the two-hour delay schedule begins (9:50).  All Sophomores will report to take the test, while all Freshman will report to complete a sample test, as preparation for next year.  7th and 8th Grade Students will also be able to take advantage of the two-hour delay as well this school year.  If your 7th or 8th Grade Student needs to ride the bus, which will be operating at normal time, this will not be a problem as the Junior High Teachers will be able to supervise and have something available for them to do, until they begin the school day on the High School Bell Schedule.  If you have any questions concerning this schedule, beginning on March 10th, please let us know and we will be happy to help.

The morning of March 6th, 40 randomly selected Juniors will be taking the ACT Exam.  This will be an opportunity for them to not only gain a better understanding of what makes up the test, but also an opportunity to complete the test, free of charge, as they begin to make their future educational preparations.

The March for Life refund checks have come in and are being distributed to your student(s).  Please be sure to ask if they have received the check yet, as we hope to pass them out today and next week.

Good luck to all the St. John Students that are competing this weekend, Boys Basketball, Wrestling at their District Tournament, and the Girls Basketball Team, versus Crestview in their Sectional Tournament, continue the tradition of excellence that is St. Johns.

Have a wonderful weekend

Go Jays and God Bless,
