Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):
There has been a lot a discussion concerning the Seventh and Eighth Grade Students, as to where do they best correspond, religious, academically, and socially, in the Elementary or the High School. At this time, we as an administrative unit believe that these students will best develop, in all areas, if they are part of the High School, while maintaining a sense of identity as a Junior High. Meaning, that the Seventh and Eighth Grade Students, starting next school year, will no longer report or be under the guise of the Elementary Office, they will now be under the administrative structure of the High School. With this change will come a number of questions, concerns, and adjustments, please understand that this process will be ongoing, as we work to provide the best educational opportunities to our students. If you have any questions about this move please feel free to contact me, whether it be by phone, email, or in person, and I will be happy to answer any of your questions to the best of my ability. Please, remember this will be an adjustment for all involved, and as we all work together to provide our children/students with the best opportunities available, the transition will be nothing but successful.
There will be a meeting Tuesday, March 4 for anyone going on the 2014 Trip to France and Spain at 7:00 p.m. in Room 29. Please bring your passports (or copies of them) and signed consent forms.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving for Christians. Join many others in the community as we do all 3 at once by praying together, running, and offering money to the needy. On Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 5:45 p.m. a Prayer Service will be held with the distribution of ashes at the community track behind Jefferson High School. 6 p.m. begins the 5 K. Runners and walkers all are welcome. You can pre-register at the Delphos St. John’s Ministry Center, High School, or Elementary School offices, with a $10 donation to the St Vincent DePaul Society.
Junior Parents, your student has received a mulch packet, please ask your student about the parent note which is in the packet, asking for your help with this large and beneficial project, to help create a successful Prom Evening. On the evening of March 6th, there will be a Junior Parent Post Prom Meeting in the East Room at 7:00 pm, the committee looks forward to your attendance as everyone works together to help their child have a safe and enjoyable Post Prom.
Beginning March 10th, Sophomores and any Junior or Senior still required to complete the OGT (Ohio Graduation Test) will begin their testing. We will be going on a Two-Hour Delay Schedule for that week to allow these students a quiet, uninterrupted atmosphere to complete the five tests. Any Junior or Senior who has passed all five tests will not need to report until the two-hour delay schedule begins (9:50). All Sophomores will report to take the test, while all Freshman will report to complete a sample test, as preparation for next year. 7th and 8th Grade Students will also be able to take advantage of the two-hour delay as well this school year. If your 7th or 8th Grade Student needs to ride the bus, which will be operating at normal time, this will not be a problem as the Junior High Teachers will be able to supervise and have something available for them to do, until they begin the school day on the High School Bell Schedule. If you have any questions concerning this schedule, beginning on March 10th, please let us know and we will be happy to help.
Monday, March 17th we WILL be in session as an entire school. This day was slated to be a Professional Development Day, however due to the cancellations that have occurred this Winter, it has been decided that this day would be more productively used as a school day or educational day. The City Schools are in session this day as well, so the buses will run as normal providing transportation if needed. If you have any questions please let us know, otherwise thank you for your cooperation during this chaotic weather season.
CORRECTION The morning of March 18th, 40 randomly selected Juniors will be taking the ACT Exam. This will be an opportunity for them to not only gain a better understanding of what makes up the test, but also an opportunity to complete the test, free of charge, as they begin to make their future educational preparations.
Good luck to the St. Johns Boys Basketball Team as they begin their Tournament run this evening against Ottoville. Congratulations to Wes Buettner on his advancement to the State Wrestling Tournament, and the Girls Basketball Team on a successful season, your hard work and dedication is an example of the tradition of excellence that is St. Johns.
Have a wonderful weekend
God Bless and Go Jays,
