Newsletter for September 26th

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

As we approach the mid-point of the First Quarter, I would like to express to you how wonderful it is to be part of your student’s Catholic Education, day in and day out. St. John’s is an amazing place to spread the Catholic Faith, educate young adolescents, and develop a sense of family and responsibility. None of these things though would be possible without the dedication, drive, and support of you, the parents. Thank you for all you do, to help continue the success that exemplifies the traditions that make St. John’s special.

Letter from Father Dave
Please see the attached letter below, from Father Dave. It is a letter that outlines a very delicate subject, but a subject that has an impact on our Parrish and Community. Should you have any questions please contact the Ministry Center.

Weekly Calendar
Please refer to http://delphosstjohns.org/hs-calendar/ for the most up-to-date information about the happenings taking place in the Junior High and High School.

Grading Scale Letter
Please be sure to check your mail, as a formal letter was sent home to address the questions concerning the change in the Grading Scale. After you have had an opportunity to read the letter, if you have any further questions about the change please let me know and I will be happy to help answer them. The letter should be arriving sometime this week, please look for it in the mail.

ACT Testing
About 40 Seniors who wished to take the ACT will be taking it here at St. John’s on Tuesday. This is an amazing opportunity for the students to take the ACT in an environment that is comfortable, familiar, and does not cause them as much anxiety. The Juniors the will have the same opportunity in March.

Two-Hour Delay for Staff In-Service
Please remember, that Wednesday will be a Two-Hour Delay for students, as staff will be participating in In-Service activities.

7th and 8th Grade Children’s Festival
On Wednesday, October 15th, the Children’s Festival will be taking place. The 7th and 8th Grade Students will be able to participate, as it will also be a Jean Day for them. We ask that the students wear Jeans and a St. John’s Shirt/Sweatshirt, per the Student Handbook. The 7th and 8th Grade will be participating in the Children’s Festival from 12:30 to 2:00. At 2:00 the 7th and 8th Grade Students will be dismissed for the day. If they do not have transportation, they will be able to wait at school until their usual dismissal time. If for some reason school would be delayed or cancelled on Wednesday, the 15th, the Children’s Festival will still be held.

Senior Walking Tour
On October 8th, the Seniors from both schools will be participating in The Annual Senior Rotary Tour of Delphos. All Seniors, including those attending Vantage or Apollo are required to attend. Students will report to the Jefferson High School Cafeteria by 8:00 AM, where the students will be provided breakfast and placed in a group chosen by Jefferson’s Principal and myself. Students will need to pay attention to the weather forecast and dress appropriately, including comfortable shoes, as the trip involves walking. The Tour will conclude at 2:30, at which time students will be dismissed for the day. Lunch will be provided by Rotary.

JCDA Dance
JCDA will be hosting a Junior High dance this Saturday September 27th from 8-10 pm at the Annex. Admission is $4. Pizza, pop etc will also be available for purchase. This is an opportunity for the teens to have a positive social event to attend! Dress should be formal and modest, reflecting the values of our Catholic Beliefs and School.

Homecoming Court/Dance
I would like to extend congratulations to our Homecoming Court and our Queen, Alyssa Martin. It is an honor to be recognized by your classmates, to take part in the festivities of Homecoming. The group this year will continue to uphold and be an example for future members of the Homecoming Court.

The Dance will take place on October 4th, with an opportunity for students to come together and enjoy a night free from the pressures of academics, arts, and athletics. However, it is also a time for the students to be an example of the Catholic Faith in how they dress, act, dance, and the music they listen to. Thank you for your help and cooperation in ensuring we have a successful Homecoming Weekend.

Good luck to all the St. John Students that are competing this weekend in one way or another, bring home a win, as we are, Blue Jays.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Go Jays and God Bless,
