Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s):
We have made it. Monday will start the 2015-16 school year. This is an exciting time and we look forward to the development, spiritually, academically, and personally of each and every one of your students as they continue to grow here at St. John’s. And always remember, if you should have any questions, about anything, please never hesitate to call, write, or stop in. We look forward to meeting and getting to know each and every parent/guardian, as we begin a new year as a St. John’s Family.
Every time we turn our heads one of our students or alumni are doing something amazing. Katie Honigford a 2012 Graduate of Delphos St. John’s currently a senior at The Ohio State University. Plays trumpet. She has participated in the Athletic Band all three years at Ohio State. She tried out for the band her junior year, but did not make it. But, she has made it her senior year!!!! Over 400 people try out for the 225 spots available. As far as I know, Katie is the second St. John’s student to make the band – Stephanie (Scherger) Gonya, class of 2002, also made the band. She is Mrs. Scherger’s daughter. Congratulations and Katie and a late congratulations to Stephanie, on this amazing accomplishment and representing St. John’s.
With school starting on Monday, a special thank you needs to go out to Jeff Bockey and his student worker for all their hard work this summer, in light of the abundance of new equipment we are welcoming into the building. They have been getting all of the new technology equipment ready, installed, updated, running, ready for student and teacher use, and doing a thorough cleaning and repair of our current technology to ensure what we have stays as nice and up to date as possible. Jeff has been a great asset to our school and parish.
We cannot forget Neal, the Maintenance Staff, and student workers who have been hard at work converting our Bookstore to a Conference Room, our old Study Hall to a Media Center, and making sure the building, grounds, and parking lots are in great condition for the start of the year. I have asked Neal to do a lot and he answers the call each and every time. We are very lucky to have someone like Neal heading our Maintenance Department.
College Credit Plus
As you may recall only the Seniors and Juniors who requested to take classes received the necessary funding, to be accepted into the College Credit Plus Program. These students will be enrolled in the Rhodes Accredited Courses they applied for and enrolled in this year. They will receive Rhodes State Credit as long as they meet the requirements set by Rhodes.
As for the Sophomores through Freshman who wished to take a course, we are now finding out that if they did not receive funding from the State they are not eligible to participate at all, no matter if the full cost of the course was covered or not.
Again we are in discussions with Rhodes State and the State to discover how we can avoid this new finding to allow all students that applied to receive Rhodes Credit the opportunity to do so, free of charge or at very little cost.
Due to this we are again asking you not to sign, agree, or complete any paperwork with Rhodes State, until Rhodes and ourselves have had an opportunity to further investigate this matter and discover the best plan of action for our students, both educationally and financially.
Thank you again so much for your patience as we work through these new developments.
St. Vincent De Paul Society Donation
Start the school year off with a clean slate! It is a new school year, new beginnings! What a better way to start off the school year than to help those less fortunate. The High School Liturgy Team is asking for donations of cleaning supplies and personal hygiene items. All of the donations will go to our local St. Vincent De Paul Society. Donation baskets will be available throughout the first week of school in the Junior High/High School Office. Thank you in advance for your donation.
The 2014-2015 Yearbook is in! They will be available in the office during normal office hours. If you have any questions please let me know.
Good luck to all the St. John Students, that are competing this weekend in one way or another, bring home a win, as we are, Blue Jays.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Go Jays and God Bless,
