September 25th Newsletter

Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s):

This week has been full of activities to celebrate Homecoming, Queen Lexi, and her Court.  From crazy hat day, to no homework night, to jinx New Bremen, to a Homecoming Mass and Pep Rally, our students have been busy celebrating this joyous occasion and tradition here at St. John’s.  Tonight the Homecoming Parade will leave school at 6:00 PM.  The route is Third Street to Main Street to Fifth Street to Jefferson Street.  Come enjoy the parade if you have a chance.

With this joyous celebration also comes the responsibility of making wise and mature decisions over this coming weekend.  Whether it be before, at, or after the game, or before, during, and after the dance, our students will face challenges that will require them to make responsible decisions, and working together I know we can achieve these common goals.

Students are highly encouraged to adhere to the dress and dance guidelines that have been provided to the students and yourselves.  With this event being a school function, at a catholic school, certain expectations are excepted to be followed and will be enforced.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support of these guidelines, which are paramount in assuring a fun and enjoyable time for the students.

Below is a little information about the Traveling Rosary, Trip to the Basilica, World Meeting of Families, Little Caesars, Sunny Delight, and the Senior Walking Tour.

Traveling Rosary

Bishop Daniel Thomas is asking every member of the Diocese to pray the rosary every day during the 54-day novena (Aug. 15-Oct. 7) for the intention of holy marriages and holy families.

One way the novena will be prayed in the Diocese of Toledo is with a “Bishop’s Traveling Rosary,” which is to make its way through the 19 counties of the entire diocese, visiting a different Catholic church/school each day.  There, the rosary is to be prayed by the entire church/school community together.

Our opportunity to participate will take place on September 27th and 28th.  On the 27th the K of C will be hosting a Praying of the Rosary at Church starting at 2:00, all are welcome to attend.  On the 28th, the entire school (K to 12) will be Praying the Rosary at the start of school.  What a wonderful opportunity to come together as a parish and school and pray for marriages and families.

Trip to the Basilica

On Friday, October 2nd, students in grades 9 -12, along with faculty and staff will travel to Carey, Ohio to visit the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation.  As a high school, we make the pilgrimage every four years.  We will be visiting the outside Stations of the Cross.  We will learn about the history of the Basilica and be able to visit the Lower Basilica where we will see display cases showing the various items left by those who have reportedly been healed, including artificial limbs, canes and crutches.  We will be able to celebrate Mass in the Basilica.  Students will also have an opportunity to visit the gift shop.  Prayer cards, patron saint medals, and other religious articles are available for purchase.  Students are to bring a packed lunch and they are to wear their uniform.  If we have a delay that day, the trip will be rescheduled for Friday, October 9th.  Please pray for us as we make this special pilgrimage.

World Meeting of Families – Follow-Up Deanery Visits

A message from Bishop Thomas, “As I attend the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, I kindly ask that the attached letter and deanery visit schedule be distributed to the parents of all school children, inviting them to an upcoming deanery event in your area.”

If you have an opportunity to attend this event it is meant to encourage and inspire everyone who is part of the family of faith and to share in the spirit of the visit made by Pope Francis to the United States.

Sunny Delight runs a promotion every year called the SunnyD Book Spree.  This promotion allows K-7 grade teachers to mail in 20 UPC labels from SunnyD and Fruit2o products and receive 20 free books.  This is our second year participating.  Last year each teacher received a box of books so our school received about 360 free books.  If you can save the UPC labels and turn them into the office, we hope to continue to be able to provide free books for our students and teachers.
