Newsletter for October 2nd

Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s):

What an amazing week here at St. John’s.  Monday we started with the Traveling Rosary, with the entire school (K to 12) praying the Rosary, followed with the Seniors who signed up to take the ACT here at school on Tuesday, and culminated with the High School (9 to 12) completing their pilgrimage to Carey and the Basilica.  (Taking place every four years)

Words cannot describe the experience of the time watching our students and staff praying the Rosary and discovering the Basilica in Carey.  Where other than at a Catholic School would students have the opportunity to ignite their faith with activities such as these.  A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Honigford for her organization and direction of these two major events.  We are truly blessed to have these opportunities available to our students, and to have students that take these moments as an opportunity to develop their faith and passion for Christ.  Go Jays!!

Below is a little information about the World Meeting of Families, Festival Ticket Sales, Little Caesars, Sunny Delight, the Senior Walking Tour, and a new policy here at school.

Senior Walking Tour

The Annual Senior Walking Tour of Delphos will be taking place on October 7th, this Wednesday.  This will be an opportunity for the Seniors to learn a little more about the history of Delphos, and the town they call home.

Self-Report Policy

Attached below is a new policy we have implemented here at St. John’s.  This new policy is something that I was unable to include in the Handbook, due to deadlines needed to meet for printing.

This Self-Report Policy is something I think we are all about as a school and parish.  We continually ask our students to do what is right and take the responsible for their actions when they are not.  However, how do you encourage a student to essentially “tell on themselves,” and receive punishment?  I hope that this new Policy encourages students to take responsibility for their actions, with the understanding that certain choices will result in certain repercussions.  However, if you are willing to acknowledge your mistake and take ownership, the consequences may be less severe.

A copy of this will be going home with all student, grades 7 through 12, on Monday.

Should you have any questions please let me know.

World Meeting of Families – Follow-Up Deanery Visits

A message from Bishop Thomas, “As I attend the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, I kindly ask that the attached letter and deanery visit schedule be distributed to the parents of all school children, inviting them to an upcoming deanery event in your area.”

If you have an opportunity to attend this event it is meant to encourage and inspire everyone who is part of the family of faith and to share in the spirit of the visit made by Pope Francis to the United States.

Further information is attached below.

Festival Ticket Sales Contest

This year will be continuing our Festival Ticket Sales Contest in the Junior High and High School.  This time of year is an exciting time as we come together for a common good and support of this amazing parish and people that make it so special.  The following is an incentive for Junior High and High School students to get out there and sell those tickets.

For every five dinner tickets a student sells, they will receive an extra hall pass they can use at any time throughout the year.  For every 100 dinner tickets a class sells they will receive a free jean day.  Two sweat/short days will be awarded.  One to the class with the highest percentage of participation in sales and one to the class that sells the most dinner tickets.  The top ticket seller will receive a $50.00 SCRIP Card, second top seller will receive a $25.00 SCRIP Card, and the third top seller will receive a $15.00 SCRIP Card.

Last year we sold 2515 Tickets, in grades 7 through 12.  If we as a school top this number this year, there will be a special reward for all Junior High and High School students.

Thank you for your continued support of St. John’s, our staff, and our students.  Without your generosity, all of this would not be possible.

Little Caesar’s Pizza Sale

Delivery for Little Caesar’s orders will be tomorrow from 10:00 AM until Noon in the All-Saints Building.

Sunny Delight Labels

Sunny Delight runs a promotion every year called the SunnyD Book Spree.  This promotion allows K-7 grade teachers to mail in 20 UPC labels from SunnyD and Fruit2o products and receive 20 free books.  This is our second year participating.  Last year each teacher received a box of books so our school received about 360 free books.  If you can save the UPC labels and turn them into the office, we hope to continue to be able to provide free books for our students and teachers.

Good luck to all the St. John Students, that are competing this weekend in one way or another, bring home a win, as we are, Blue Jays.

Go Jays and God Bless,
