February 12th Newsletter

Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:

Another great week has passed that included the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday, and our first Friday of Lent today.  Whether we are giving something up or doing something special, it is a great time to reflect on our lives as we prepare for the Resurrection of Christ.

Junior Post-Prom Meeting

There will be a Post-Prom Meeting for all Junior Parents, tomorrow, the 16th at 7:00 PM in the Robert A. Thank you for your help and attending.

Senior Graduation Items

Seniors, Jostens will be at school on Wednesday the 17th at 7:15 AM to hand-out caps and gowns and other items ordered through Jostens.

Real World/Real Money

In conjunction with the OSU Extension Office, we will be hosting a Real World/Real Money simulation here at school on February 19th.  This simulation will be for Juniors and Seniors and will give the students an interactive, hands-on experience to simulate lifestyle and budget choices, that adults face daily.

8th Grade/Freshman Orientation

For all current and/or incoming Freshman we will conduct an informational meeting on February 22nd, in the Robert A, at 7:00 PM to talk about planning for the future, including scheduling, examining the curriculum guide, college credit plus, and the opportunities that are available as they transition from Junior High to High School.

PTO Nominations

Do you or someone you know want the opportunity to be involved in your son or daughter’s school, all the while being part of the St. John’s family?  Well, maybe PTO is for you.  Attached below is a nomination form along with an informational sheet explaining the roles of officers and events the PTO participates in.  If you or someone you know is interested please nominate them.

Prom Information

Attached below are the Guidelines that we will be instituting for this year’s Prom, hosted at St. John’s High School.  Please take an opportunity to look them over and help support our position of creating an atmosphere that lives up to the Catholic Values and Beliefs we try to instill in our students on a daily basis.  If you have any questions regarding the Policy, please let me know.  These will also be going home with your son or daughter’s grade card if they are a Junior or Senior.

Attached below is information on a Free Course to help students improve their ACT Score.  Please look through attached TutorMe information for more details.  Not only is this a great opportunity for student to improve their score, but it is free.

Local Scholarships

Mr. Unterbrink would like all Seniors and their parents to be attentive to the attached list of local scholarships.  The majority of these scholarships have deadlines in the spring of the year.  For nearly all of these scholarships, Mr. Unterbrink has yet to receive this year’s application.  Upon receipt of each of these scholarship applications, Mr. Unterbrink will be announcing them, and the criteria required to the Seniors during school.

Catholic Heart Work Camp

Students will have an opportunity to travel to Chicago to participate in a mission trip with Catholic Heart Work Camp.  The dates are July 24 – 30th.  Any student grades 9 through 12 are eligible to attend.  The cost is $400.00 per person.  A deposit of $200.00 is due February 26th.  Final payment is due April 8th.  Vancrest has graciously volunteered to sponsor two students who cannot financially afford to go.  Any student interested in financial assistance, please contact Mrs. Honigford for more details.

Youth Group

Our next gathering will be Sunday February 21st at 4:00 PM.  It will be a game day!  We will be playing dodgeball, corn hole, and basketball.  Please meet in the breezeway.  We will play until 5:30 PM.  Any student in grades 7 to 12 is invited to attend.  Come join the fun!

St. Vincent dePaul Food Drive

Students in grades 7 to 12 were invited to participate in some friendly competition to help fill the shelves of the St. Vincent dePaul Food Pantry.  Food items were assigned positive or negative points.  The class with the most positive points receive a jean day after Lent.

Liturgy Team is pleased to announce that 589 items were donated!  The results are as follows:  Freshmen had 200 points, Sophomores had 220, 8th Grade had 315, while 7th Grade had 340.  Juniors were the only class to have a negative number of points with -775.  Seniors won the competition with 865 positive points.  Thanks to everyone who brought in food items.
