Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:
This weekend, starting tonight, we will look to celebrate 24-Hours for Lord, a one-time event inaugurated by Pope Francis, during the Year of Mercy, and held during the Third Week in Lent. For more information please visit the link below, or contact the Ministry Center.
On March 13th, our 8th Graders will complete the Sacrament of Confirmation, here at St. Johns. The Sacrament of Confirmation builds on the Sacraments of Baptism, Penance, and Holy Communion, and completes the process of initiation into the Catholic Church. It establishes young adults as full-fledged members of the faith, confirming and strengthening the faith bestowed in Baptism. Being confirmed means accepting responsibility for your faith and destiny. This signifies that as a young adult one must do what is morally correct, not for the recognition or reward, but merely because it is the right thing to do. This rite is what I hope will be one of your child’s lasting memories from their 8th-grade year at St. John’s.
As a reminder, the Confirmation Retreat will take place on Friday the 11th. The students are allowed to wear jeans and a Blue Jay shirt/sweatshirt. For the Confirmation Ceremony, candidates and their sponsors should wear “appropriate attire”. This is a sacred Sacrament and our dress should reflect our respect of this Sacrament.
Congratulations to Brett Vonderwell on an amazing Wrestling Season. The road Brett had to overcome to reach the State Tournament was a daunting one, but through his drive and determination, he was a State Qualifier for the second year in a row. Though the outcome was not what Brett or any of us had hoped, what Brett has accomplished is a reminder to us all that hard work and dedication do pay off. Congratulations Brett on all you have completed this season.
Congratulations to the Boys Basketball Team on a great season. Every season comes to an end, yours came just a little too soon. Thank you to our Seniors, for your leadership and support throughout the season and your career at St. John’s.
After today, our Seniors are CPR Certified. Hopefully, they will never need to use these skills, but in case they are faced with a situation that would call on them to save a life, our students are officially trained.
Congratulations to Rylee Pohlman who finished 4th on Saturday, the 27th at the Allen County Spelling Bee. And good luck to Adam Bockey who will represent St. John’s at the Regional Bee held at OSU-Lima this Saturday, March 5th.
We would like to wish good luck to Leah Hodgson, Michaela Shawhan, and Renee Unland as they compete in the Ohio History Day at Bowling Green State University, tomorrow the 5th.
Below is a very important event coming up next week that I would like to draw your attention to so that you do not miss the opportunity to attend.

Tobacco Free Campus
Delphos St. John’s Parish and Schools have implemented a new tobacco-free policy to create a more positive, healthy environment for students. The new policy prohibits all students, staff, volunteers, and visitors from possessing or using any tobacco products (including electronic cigarettes of any kind) in any building, facility, or vehicle owned or leased and on school grounds, athletic grounds and parking lots.
State law prohibits smoking inside school buildings, but surrounding campuses are not automatically smoke-free areas. Delphos St. John’s instituted the policy because school staff members and visitors serve as role models to students at a time when they are making choices about tobacco for themselves.
Thank you for your help and support as we being to institute this new and beneficial policy.
TutorMe ACT Course
Attached below is information on a Free Course to help students improve their ACT Score. Please look through attached TutorMe information for more details. Not only is this a great opportunity for the student to improve their score, but it is free.

With a new year on the horizon, it’s time to begin thinking a little about the 2016-17 school year. Please follow the link for information about a scholarship opportunity your children may be eligible for through the Northwest Ohio Scholarship Fund. Remember it never hurts to try.
Mr. Unterbrink would like all Seniors and their parents to be attentive to the attached list of local scholarships. The majority of these scholarships have deadlines in the spring of the year. For nearly all of these scholarships, Mr. Unterbrink has yet to receive this year’s application. Upon receipt of each of these scholarship applications, Mr. Unterbrink will be announcing them, and the criteria required to the Seniors during school.

Attached below are the Guidelines that we will be instituting for this year’s Prom, hosted at St. John’s High School. These guidelines must be looked over and followed to help support our position of creating an atmosphere that lives up to the Catholic Values and Beliefs we try to instill in our students on a daily basis. If you have any questions regarding the Policy, please let me know.
Reminder – All Dresses must be submitted for approval, to gain access to Prom. Please refer to the guidelines on how to complete this process.
It can feel good to be looked at, but remember do they really see the true you. In dressing modest young women can be known for who they are and not what they wear. Humility is the sentiment and modesty is how we live our lives so that God can bless us.
Good luck to all the St. John Students, that are competing this weekend in one way or another, bring home a win, as you have already made the Blue Family so proud of you.
Go Jays and God Bless,
