May 6th Newsletter

Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:

It is hard to believe that it is May, but it is even harder to believe that there are only 10 days of school left for Seniors and 18 for Underclassmen and the Junior High.  Where has the year gone?

Though our Open Houses are over, the opportunity to visit and enroll at St. John’s always remains available.  If you know of anyone that is deciding and weighing their educational options please provide them with our contact information, bring them by, or continue to encourage them to check out St. John’s and what we have to offer.  If there is any information that you need do not hesitate to ask.  We thank you for everything you do to make St. John’s special.

Mothers are the sweetest gift from God to us.  There is no way we can ever really thank our mother for all she does for us, nevertheless, we must make it a habit to keep reminding ourselves of the various sacrifices she makes while raising us.  Mother’s Day, this Sunday, is the best time to say in words how much you love and care for your mom.

On Tuesday, May 3, the following students traveled to Toledo to attend the Seventh Grade Catholic Leadership Conference.  Though we have a number of great students that could have been selected we were limited to 12 and wanted to keep a balance of boys and girls.  If you get a chance to talk to Lilly Hempfling, Cassidy Werts, Elly Wrasman, Paige Gaynier, Addi Mueller, Renee Unland, Isaac Fairchild, Jason Gillespie, Curtis Mueller, Derek Haggard, Trent Lindeman, or Jeffery Odenweller, they will be happy to share with you, their experience.  It was a great time for both teachers and students.

Our Seniors departed for New York City on their Class Trip last night at 10:30.  Please keep them in your prayers as they enjoy themselves and travel safely around the big city and back home.

Below is a little information about Tuition Information, Summer Food Drive, Prom, Service Opportunity, College Success Workshop, Yearbook, Sub Sale, Cadet Program, Special Teams Camp, and Basketball Camp.

Important 2016-17 Tuition Information

If you have not submitted any application for a Scholarship for the 2016-17 school year, please do so as soon as possible.  The Parish/Community Member Scholarship Application is attached below.  All families who have submitted a Parish or Community Member Scholarship so far have received an Award Letter and Tuition Worksheet from the Parish Office.  Many families still need to submit their Tuition Worksheet, to select your payment plan and to accept your award.  Once you return this information you will then receive a Tuition Statement from SMART Tuition showing your Tuition Bill for the 2016-17 school year.

If you have questions about what you need to submit, please call the Parish Ministry Center, 419-695-4050, the Elementary School Office, 419-692-8561, or the Junior High/High School Office, 419-692-5371, and we will be glad to assist you.  Thank you for helping us keep the cost of Catholic Education an excellent value at St. John’s.

School’s Out for Summer Food Drive

The Liturgy Team is sponsoring a food drive on Friday, May 13.  Students are asked to bring in two “kid-friendly” non-perishable food items.  Suggested foods are Spaghetti O’s, Chef Boyardee pasta items, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, and cereal.  All food items will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul’s Food Pantry.  Donations to the food pantry notoriously are low during the summer, so we would like to stock their shelves before the end of the school year.  Students in grades 7 through 12 who make a donation of two items will be given a Blue Jay Jean Day on Friday, May 13.  Please help the less fortunate members of our community.

This coming weekend, May 14, the Junior and Senior students will celebrate Prom in the All-Saints with a Post-Prom at the Kangaroo Cave.  This is a very special time for these Upperclassmen, a time to come together as a class, as a school, to enjoy a safe and entertaining evening, free from the distractions of life and the pressures that come with being 16, 17, 18 years old in Delphos.

I want to thank you all, though you may not have agreed with, but respected the policies laid out for this special event.  As a Catholic School I feel we have an obligation to our students in helping them make choices that will benefit them now and later in their lives.  It may not be the popular choice, but I think it is the right choice, as they move closer to adulthood.

Service Opportunity

We are in need of your Service Jobs.  On May 18, the Junior High and High School students will be performing acts of service for the Delphos Community, as a way to show our support for all the Delphos Community does for us.

Below is more information on this day and a chance for you to request an act of service.

Service Day Opportunity

We look forward to doing what we can to help you.

College Success Workshop

A “College Success Planning” workshop will be conducted at the Delphos Public Library this coming Sunday from 2 to 4 PM.  Parents and students are invited.  If you are thinking about college, the correct strategy may be more important than receiving a huge scholarship.  Come join us and bring a friend.  You can win a $500 scholarship just for attending!
