May 13th Newsletter

Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:

There are only 5 days of school left for Seniors and 13 for Underclassmen and the Junior High.  But who’s counting?

The Class Trip, according to the students and chaperones was a great success, as they enjoyed visiting New York City.  The students enjoyed their time participating in a number of events and activities.  A big thank you to the students, the chaperones, Mrs. Hershey, Mrs. Clark, and Mrs. Honigford for all of their help.

As you know, May 18 will be our Service Day to Delphos.  We have received a good deal of personal requests and a number from local organizations around town.  Being that this is our first ever, and not last, way to show our support and appreciation for all that Delphos does for us, we would like to thank a few people for helping with this major undertaking.  A big thank you to Mrs. Honigford, Mr. Desenberg, Mrs. Closson, Mr. Miller, Mrs. Stiffey, and Mrs. Ledyard for all of their help.  We would also like to thank to Delphos Community for all of their support and dedication to our School and Parish.

Congratulations to Evan Krites, on earning his State Degree in FFA.  A State and American (the highest you can receive) degree are very difficult and only members that are truly committed and put forth the effort and hard work will receive these degrees.  There are roughly 28,000 FFA members in the state of Ohio.  This year only 837 received the State degree, which comes out to a little under 3%.  An American degree is a national award and usually only about 1% of all members across the country will receive this award.  Evan is going to pursue his American degree after graduation.

Congratulations to Hunter Clawson, our Optimist Student of the Month for April.  Throughout the year, Hunter has exhibited the qualities necessary to earn this award, whether it be through his academic achievement, participation in class, or his willingness to help staff or students.  Hunter exemplifies what it means to be the Optimist Student of the Month.

Please keep Seminarian Tony Coci in your prayers, as he will be ordained a Deacon on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Rosary Cathedral in Toledo.  Tony will be back in our Parish this summer, and will have one more year of study in preparation for the Priesthood.

Important 2016-17 Tuition Information

If you have not submitted any application for a Scholarship for the 2016-17 school year, please do so as soon as possible.  The Parish/Community Member Scholarship Application is attached below.  All families who have submitted a Parish or Community Member Scholarship so far have received an Award Letter and Tuition Worksheet from the Parish Office.  Many families still need to submit their Tuition Worksheet, to select your payment plan and to accept your award.  Once you return this information you will then receive a Tuition Statement from SMART Tuition showing your Tuition Bill for the 2016-17 school year.

If you have questions about what you need to submit, please call the Parish Ministry Center, 419-695-4050, the Elementary School Office, 419-692-8561, or the Junior High/High School Office, 419-692-5371, and we will be glad to assist you.  Thank you for helping us keep the cost of Catholic Education an excellent value at St. John’s.

This coming weekend, May 14, the Junior and Senior students will celebrate Prom in the All-Saints with a Post-Prom at the Kangaroo Cave.  This is a very special time for these Upperclassmen, a time to come together as a class, as a school, to enjoy a safe and entertaining evening, free from the distractions of life and the pressures that come with being 16, 17, 18 years old in Delphos.

I want to thank you all, though you may not have agreed with, but respected the policies laid out for this special event.  As a Catholic School I feel we have an obligation to our students in helping them make choices that will benefit them now and later in their lives.  It may not be the popular choice, but I think it is the right choice, as they move closer to adulthood.
