July 29th Newsletter

Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:

As July comes to an end, we look forward to the month of August, and the return to school right around the corner.  Over the next few weeks, emails will be going home with valuable information about the start of school, important dates, and some streamline changes regarding our website and how parents complete registration information for your student(s).

If your email has recently changed please contact the Junior High/High School office so we can update our records, to ensure you receive the information.

Attached below you will find the changes that have been made to the Student Handbook, the Teacher Supply List, Registration Information, Youth Group Information, and the Footwear Options for the Junior High.  Please remember that if you should have any questions, do not hesitate to call, email, or stop in the office, our goal is to not make this more challenging, but rather make your back to school shopping and transition to the 2016-17 school year as smooth as possible.

Reminder – Many important dates for next year have already been updated on the School Calendar.  If any dates are of particular interest, which are not on the calendar please do not hesitate to ask.

Junior High Footwear Dress Code

Below you will find the shoe selections for your Junior High student(s).  We highly recommend you purchase shoes from one of the options pre-selected for you from Shoe Carnival in Lima or Shoe Carnival online.  You can also order shoes at the store if they would be out of stock.  If you purchase shoes outside of these options, we cannot guarantee they will meet the uniform guidelines.  Which may result in disciplinary action.

If you have any questions the sales clerks at Shoe Carnival will have the list of the pre-approved shoes, please do not hesitate to ask.  We hope this makes it easier for our families with your back to school shopping and eliminates the questions as to what footwear is appropriate.

Shoe Carnival will be hosting a Catholic School shopping party event, which will be held on July 30 and August 13.  Both days the store will be open 9:30 AM – 9:30 PM.  The customer will receive 30% off their in-store purchase, with the flyer below.  If they would be out of a specific shoe or size, they will order for you through the store and still honor the 30% discount along with free shipping to your home.  We encourage you to utilize this discount, but if you are unable to make this event Shoe Carnival will be offering a buy one get one-half off sale until August 6, which can be paired with the tax-free shopping weekend and/or coupons for a greater discount.  Tax-free shopping weekend begins Friday, August 5, 2016, at 12:00 a.m. and ends on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at 11:59 p.m.  Be sure to check the Thursday ads in the newspaper for special offers and coupons.  Retail Me Not is a great app that can also provide a discount, visit Shoe Carnival online for printable coupons, or show your phone when checking out.  A $5.00 coupon is attached below.

The following question has been raised, “will these shoes be allowed for High School students,” and the answer is yes.  Not only will they be allowed for High School students this school year, Junior High students will be allowed to wear these options as they enter High School as well.

At this time, we are examining extending this policy to the High School for the 2017-18 School Year.

Student Handbook Changes

Below you will find the abbreviated changes that have been made to the Student Handbook for the 2016-17 School.  Please be sure to read the entire Handbook, when it comes home after registration, for the complete descriptions.  Your help is instrumental in ensuring the policies and guidelines outlined are achieved.

Student Supply List

Attached below you will find the supply list for your student(s), and the classes they are enrolled in.  If you do not see a teacher your child has on this list, then there are no supplies they will need to have or they will be informed of anything they need on the first day of school.

St. John’s Junior High/High School Registration 2016-17 School Year

As you will notice there are no forms attached below in regards to registration materials, as you have seen in the past.  Information regarding our new online registration forms will be emailed to you in the near future.  This online registration is intended to encompass all forms that were completed by hand in the past, into a user-friendly, online portal, that you will have access to at all times, to make any changes necessary.  More information will follow.  We pray this takes away the burden of filling out forms in the future.

The registration dates and times are as follows…

Tuesday, August 16th               7th Grade from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Tuesday, August 16th               8th Grade from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Wednesday, August 17th        Freshman from 9:00 to 11 a.m.

Wednesday, August 17th        Sophomores from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Thursday, August 18th             Juniors from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Thursday, August 18th             Seniors from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Youth Group Information!!

Prayer – Encountering God

Come and join students from the Franciscan University of Steubenville on August 13th-14th as they provide us some formation in prayer and living the Christian life.  On Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. in the Ministry Center, there will be a discussion on prayer, what it is, how we can do it well, and why it is important in our lives today.  At 7:00 p.m. in the basement of Landeck St. John the Baptist, there will be free pizza and a movie for Junior High and High School students followed by discussion about the virtuous Christian life.  On Sunday, at 6:00 p.m., there will be solemn vespers and benediction.  Everyone is invited to join us for an hour of prayer and thanksgiving!
