September 4th Newsletter

Good Morning Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:

Thank you for all of your help and support as we begin a new year, a new year for everyone.  Thank you for your faith in St. John’s, as we would not be able to accomplish our mission, without your care and support.  We thank you for choosing St. John’s for your student(s) and your family.

I will be trying something new this year involving the Newsletter.  I know we all live very busy lives and I want to do my part to help.  After talking with a number of parents and the staff I will be moving to a bi-weekly newsletter, which I hope is more concise for your busy schedules.  However, if anything would change I will keep you up to date with messages regarding any particular issues you need to be aware of.

Thank you again for everything and have a great week.

Homecoming Guidelines

The Homecoming Guidelines have not changed from last year.  The U.S. Bishops state that “as Christians we should dress in a modest manner, wearing clothing that reflects our reverence for God and that manifest our respect for the dignity of the liturgy and for one another.”  I do wish that you exercise modesty and sound judgments as you shop for dresses.  I understand the challenges we face, adhering to our Catholic Faith while trying to shop in an environment that does not always share our beliefs.  However, know that your help is greatly appreciated in supporting the message that we work to accomplish together each day.

Guidelines are on our website http://www.delphosstjohns.org/Forms.aspx and attached below.

3-Hour Delays

Some of you may have heard about a change that has been approved by the City Schools and one we will be participating in as well, 3-Hour Delays.

This school year, and likely into the future, we will be adding 3-Hour Delays as part of our Delay/Cancellation Schedule to help avoid lost days/hours of instruction.  These 3-Hour Delays will NOT include an extended day and will be used mainly for fog delays, to give a little extra time for the fog and/or roads to clear.  Providing for safe travel for our buses, staff, and students.

A 3-Hour Delay Schedule has been created and is attached below.

June 1st Newsletter

Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:

Good Afternoon.

As we close the 2016-17 School Year, we want to recognize our Seniors and all they have done our Parish, School, and Students. They have been a great example for the Underclassmen of how a class can come together and support one another, in order to accomplish their goals. The Seniors were able to celebrate some of their last moments together this past week, at their Senior Retreat, Graduation Practice, and Senior Awards, with Sunday marking the last time they will all be together as a class. With graduation concluded, each of them will begin to go their separate ways and begin a new chapter in their lives. We wish each and every one of them the best as they continue on their journey through life, but want them to remember that once a Blue Jay, always a Blue Jay. Should they need anything we are here for them. Congratulations Class of 2017.

Congratulations and good luck to Jill Gemmer, who placed first in the Discus at the Track Regionals in Troy, and earned a spot to compete at State this weekend. You have made the Blue Jay Family proud and there is no doubt you will represent St. John’s with pride in Columbus.

May 23rd Newsletter

Dear Parent(s)/Guardians(s) and Students:
Good Afternoon.
With the year continuing to wind down and a number of events taking place from now until the end of the year, please do not hesitate to call/email/stop by if you have any questions about anything.  We want to ensure we are ending the year on a positive and productive note.
Last Friday was the last day of school for our Seniors, the Class of 2017, the 102nd Graduating Class of St. John’s.  This Senior Class has been a pleasure to work with, as they have strived to challenge themselves, personally, academically, and through their faith.  There is no doubt that each and every one of them will go on to accomplish great things.  They will be missed, but they will not be forgotten.
Thank you to Mrs. Honigford, Mrs. Stiffey, Mrs. Ledyard, Mr. Miller, Mrs. Closson, and Mr. Desenberg for working to help make our Service Day to Delphos and the Community such a success.  The logistics of planning and sending out over 300 students and staff to various locations around the community is daunting, but listening to reflections and hearing how the service projects affected the lives of those we helped, including the students and staff is truly what it is all about.  Providing an opportunity to give back to a community that gives us so much.  We look forward to offering our service again next year.
Thank you to Mrs. Elwer, Mrs. Haehn, and the Mission Society Representatives for all of their hard work and time in preparing and running May Crowning and May Day Games.  May Crowning is way for us to honor Mary and the Marian devotions held in the Catholic Church.  While May Day Games is a great way to bring a little fun to the end of the year, and gear up for the last few days of school.  Congratulations to our Volleyball, Dodge Ball, and Cornhole Champions.
Thank you to Mrs. Slawinski for putting on a spectacular Choir Concert this past weekend.  I know I repeat myself often, but we are so blessed to have the talent we do here at St. John’s.  These students are amazing and are led by an amazing director.
Delphos St. John’s Graduate Andrew Wellman, was ordained Saturday as a Transitional Deacon in the Diocese of Toledo.  Congratulations and continued prayers for Andrew as he prepares for the Priesthood.  He is a great example for our students.
Good luck to Cole Reindel, Gunnar Stemen, Canyon Scirocco, Isaac Musser, and Jill Gemmer, who will all be competing at the Track Regionals in Troy tomorrow.  You have made the Blue Jay Family proud and there is no doubt you with represent St. John’s with pride tomorrow.

Without this gift, we would not be able to purchase such an item and continue the development and upgrading of our Parish and School.

All in the hopes of hearing a message from the Seniors that ignites a passion and better understanding of the challenges and rewards High School will hold.
